There were two notable moves in the legal tech world announced today, both to newly created positions, as the law f irm Crowell & Moring announced that it has named Alma Asay as its first chief innovation and value officer, and Relativity said that it has named Laurie Usewicz as its first chief partner officer.

Firms that fall on this point in the adoption curve often rely on on-premise or outdated tools for their legal workthink local storage, manual time tracking, and spreadsheets. Skeptics have yet to experiment with AI or simply dont trust it for legal work.

The goal is to draft an advisory ethics opinion for release in November that would address the risks and benefits of using AI in legal practice and provide guidance on how to do so while complying with ethical obligations. She is an ABA Legal Rebel, and is listed on the Fastcase 50 and ABA LTRC Women in Legal Tech.
